1: What model sizes do you have?
The range is from 30 kVAr to 3800 kVAr. We can build systems up to several hundred MVAr.
2: What is the voltage range?
Our smaller units of 30 – 200 kVAr are connected at 400VAC, while our larger models of 1900, 2850 and 3800 kVAr connect at MV levels up to 33kV.
3: What is the form factor?
The 400VAC models are wall mount for simple applications, or can be cabinet-mounted and built up to 600 kVAr per cabinet. Cabinets can then be parallel-connected to increase system capacity. The 400VAC options are designed to be mounted inside plant rooms or the likes up to IP54. The MV models are based on our outdoor solar inverter, and comes complete in an outdoor IP55 design. Each STATCOM is paired with a MV station that consists of MV/LV transformer and MV switchgear.
4: What is the reaction time?
Depending on the model, as low as 15ms.
5: What operational modes can be used?
There are various operational modes that can be employed depending on the application. It is possible to switch between modes if the system requirements change. Modes include fixed VAR, dynamic VAR and automatic voltage control.
6: Can STATCOMs be controlled via communications?
Yes. The 400VAC models have Modbus RTU via RS485 native with optional Ethernet PCB for Modbus TCP. The MV models have Ethernet native for Modbus TCP.
7: Are STATCOMs easy to service?
Yes. All models are modular in design. The 400VAC models consist of modules that can be racked in and out of the cabinet so changing out a module for service is a simple task. The MV models are constructed using high-capacity field replaceable modules (FRUs) that can be racked out in the field. All STATCOMS can be put back into operation even with a module removed for service. They will continue to operate at a reduced capacity.
8: How are STATCOMs cooled?
All models are aircooled, including our MV models. Fans are a simple maintenance item, avoiding complications associated with liquid cooled systems.
